5 Prayers for Your Home

My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest. Isaiah 32:18

Welcome Home!

This simple phrase holds so much hope and promise. Praying over our homes is one of the greatest acts we can perform for our houses and families. As we walk around and through our homes, we welcome the Holy Spirit to surround our spaces and our people with the love and protection of our Savior.

Our homes should inspire us to go out into the world to do great things and then welcome us back for refreshment. – Unknown

A Prayer Walk

Today I am giving you some simple prayers to pray for your home and your family. I hope they are just a starting point of prayer as you can personalize them for your home and family.

A prayer walk is exactly what it sounds like. It is us merely taking the time to walk in and around our houses while praying. Let’s start by walking the perimeter of the outside of your home, circling it with God’s hedge of protection.

The Outside Perimeter

Jesus, at the end of His sermon on the mount, teaches us a lesson on building our homes and our faith on a firm foundation. He tells the story of two homes that are identical except for their foundation. How do they hold up?

One house is built by a wise man upon a rock, and it stands against all odds. The other is built by a foolish man upon the sand, and it collapses in the face of turmoil. As we walk the perimeter of our houses, let’s pray for our families’ salvation and relationship with the Lord to be built upon the firm foundation of Christ, our Rock.

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.  The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.  But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” – Matthew 7:24-27

Lord, I pray for my family to know you and build their lives upon the precepts in your Word. I pray that all my family would have a saving relationship with you.  Make us wise in how we live our lives. May our foundation be built upon you and your Word. Amen.

Windows, Doors, and Porch

I love sleeping with the windows open, but I have allergies. You cannot keep out the bad air and let in only the good air. To keep our families safe, we also need to guard against letting in bad, or even evil, forces.

As we pass by the windows, walk up onto the porch, and enter the doorways, we pray for God’s protection for our families.

But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. – 2 Thessalonians 3:3

Lord, we welcome our friends and family into our home and ask that you bless them with your peace. We pray a hedge of protection around our house and thank you for your faithful protection. As we pass through this door, draw us close to you. Amen

Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of the home, the place where our families gather and are nourished. The kitchen table is the place where conversations take place, and relationships are fostered. We want to take time to pray for God’s blessing and protection over everything we do here to love and nurture our families.

They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts. – Acts 2:46

Lord, warm my kitchen with the hospitality of your heart. Let us show hospitality to others and share your love with all who visit here.  As we gather here amongst our family and friends, I pray that you nurture our spirits as well as our bodies. May we break bread with glad and sincere hearts. Amen

Living/Family Room

We have both a Living room and a Family room. Both of these rooms provide a comfortable place for us to gather as a family or with our friends. The main difference between the rooms is that only the Family room has a TV in it. We often gather in the Family room to watch our favorite teams or binge-watch a Netflix series. The living room is more the place to gather with friends. Both rooms are places of comfort and relaxation. We live as a family in these rooms, and I want to pray that these rooms foster a life of loving one another.

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. – Ephesians 4:32

Lord, thank you for providing us with the comfort of a home. Let this room be a place where we can experience happiness, peace, and fellowship. Let this room be filled with kind words to one another, compassion for each other as we go through our struggles and let us always live a life of forgiveness. Amen.

Bedrooms

We live crazy busy lives sometimes. God did not intend for us to cram so much into our days that we don’t have time for proper rest. I am not talking about just sleep; I am talking about having downtime to refresh and renew. Let’s pray for our family members to experience this kind of rest.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30

Lord, I pray for my family to be able to find rest in you. To be able to lay their burdens at your feet and rely on your power and strength. Thank you for your gentle and humble heart and that my soul will find rest in you. Amen.

Amen

I love praying for my home and my family. I hope you also find joy and comfort in taking a prayer walk in your home. What a beautiful act this is for us to perform for our loved ones. Even if you live alone, take this walk on behalf of the family that lives away and pray for love, comfort, and peace to be in their lives.

May your walls know joy; may every room hold laughter and every window open to great possibilities. – Maryanne Radmacher-Hershey
