Fervent Chapter 6 – Your Fears
If I were your enemy, I would intimidate you with enough worries until avoiding them becomes your driving motivation. I would leave you indecisive and clinging to safety and sameness. When you hear the word faith, all you would hear is “unnecessary risk.” (Fervent p 105)
Have you ever wanted to do something that you know God has called you to, but didn’t because of fear? Have you ever convinced yourself that the risk involved makes it not worth it? Have you ever turned the other cheek on faith?
I have done this so many times, in both big things and small things. They say hindsight is 20/20. I suppose hindsight is a light to move forward. We can’t change the past, but we sure can change the future.
I have wanted to get out of Corporate America since the first day I walked into it. Starting all the way back to when I was 15 and worked as a file clerk at my Dad’s office. Then God spoke to me and told me to go into Psychology. I did not obey, I chose a course that leads me deeper into the halls of Corporate America. This pattern has continued for many years, and I am now at a place where I am actively pursuing work outside of Corporate America in my writing. I am using the light of hindsight to scare off the shadows of fear and seeing things for the first time in the light of God’s truth.
If the only reason you are not moving forward in obedience to what God is calling you to do is fear, Satan wins. If Satan is working this hard to keep me from walking in the truth of my God-given calling, so hard that he has been winning for 54 years, then there must be some blessing or bounty from heaven he is trying to divert me from! But God is never late, and God is never wrong. He will part the Red Sea once I have faith to believe and obey. In my situation, it is already happening, the Sea is parting, and I am walking across dry land, with water that is higher than I can see on both sides of me, I must now step in faith or be swallowed up by the sea.
It is faith that allows us to step foot on dry soil in the middle of a sea of fears and doubts, it is faith that will lead us to the Promised Land, our destiny, it is faith that will allow us to see God as fearless, and because He is fearless we can be fearless too!
Our call to prayer this week is to call on our God that far outranks the enemy in strength and might. We must have a deliberate prayer strategy in place to fight the intentional strategy the enemy has purposely set in place to deter us from our destiny. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind! (2 Tim. 1:7)
My verse for prayer and meditation this week is:
“The word of the Lord came to me: I choose you before I formed you in the womb; I set you apart before you were born. I appointed you a prophet to the nations. But I protested, “Oh no, Lord, God! Look, I don’t know how to speak since I am only a youth.” Then the Lord said to me: Do not say, “I am only a youth,” for you will go to everyone I send you to and speak whatever I tell you. Do not be afraid of anyone, for I will be with you to deliver you.” Jer. 1:4-8 HCSB
