Oh Holy Night, A Journey to Bethlehem – Day Eleven, A Sign
“This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Luke 2:12
Seeing the bell ringers outside the local grocery store with cheerful smiles and earnest well wishes, urges us to take a holy pause in the middle of crossing off a task on our to-do list. This is my favorite sign of Christmas. Every time I hear the bells ringing when I get out of my car and walk towards the store, my heart pauses to remember the real reason for the season.
Over the past 10 years or so, we have saved all the coins found in the laundry and placed them in a piggy bank, we call it the “laundry pig” and every Christmas the boys and I take the “laundry pig” to our grocery store and feed the red bucket. A sign from us to God, that we want to take a pause in the midst of our comfortable lives and acknowledge that a Savior was born for every person, in every walk of life, living under every kind of condition.
The sign God chose to give us—Jesus being born in a humble manger, wrapped in cloths—stills my heart.
