Fervent Chapter 2 – Your Focus

If I were your enemy, I’d disguise myself and manipulate your perspectives so that you’d be focused on the wrong culprit-your husband, your friend, your hurt, your finances, anything or anyone except me… (Fervent)

****Hocus Pocus Lose Your Focus****

There is something just magical about a good magic show (see my play on words?).  But is magic real?  Do the words “Hocus Pocus” have an extraordinary power?

I recently watched a TV Show called Penn & Teller: Fool Us where the contestants create a magic trick and if they can fool Penn & Teller, they win.  You see, we all know magic is not real, but just a show, a trick.  The magician will make you believe what you have seen is real when in fact it is not.  They have stolen your focus!  They have fooled you.

Spiritual Warfare, however, is real and damaging to our lives.  The enemy is at work and creating drama and chaos to distract us.  It is the opposite of the magic trick.  What you see, feel, hear and can touch is the distraction.  It is what you don’t see, feel, hear or touch that is the cause and the problem.

The real enemy – the capital-E “Enemy”- you know who he is.  And you simply cannot keep letting him go unchecked while you throw money and anger and logic and psychology at your problems in a vain attempt at overcoming or outsmarting them. (Fervent)

So, how are we going to fight the Enemy?  We are going to use Ephesians 6:10-17 to gear us up and be battle ready!  We will put on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, shoes of peace, shield of faith and the helmet of salvation.  We will fight with the sword of the Spirit (Word of God).  But the grenade we are going to be dropping into enemy territory is the one with the backing of the power of God Almighty———-Prayer!

Call to Prayer

We are going to be strategic, purposeful and specific in our prayers.  We are going to be focused on our prayers.  We are going to be effective in our prayers.

We are going to ask God to help us take our focus off people and circumstances and refocus.

We are going to focus on the God whose love we cannot be separated from (Rom 8:38).

We will rely on a God whose power is above anything in this world or the world to come (Eph. 1:21)

We will serve the God whose name alone drops us to our knees (Phil. 2:9)

We will exalt the Lord who rescued us and refused to let the enemy triumph over us. (Ps. 30:1)

Though we walk in the midst of trouble, God will revive us and take down our enemies. (Ps. 138:7)

Our enemy will not shout in triumph over us! (Ps. 41:11)

As God arises, His enemies will scatter, and those who hate Him will flee! (Ps. 68:1)

And finally, we will defeat the real enemy with prayers of Praise, Repentance, Asking for courage and discernment and with a resounding YES Lord!
