Oh Holy Night, A Journey to Bethlehem – Day Thirteen, See
“When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.’” Luke 2:15
The Shepherds’ very first response after hearing this good news was to leave everything and go see this thing that has happened. They were not just popping over to the maternity ward at Bethlehem General Hospital to drop off a quick baby gift. No, they were going to see an event that changed the world.
The shepherds realized that the prophecies passed on from generations of old, had come to pass and that the Lord had made His advent. Their hearts would have been racing at the realization that the promised Messiah, the Savior, and Redeemer of humankind, had finally been born.
When we set out our nativity sets, we are setting the scene of a wonder of the world; we are setting up a scene of “this thing” that happened the night our promised Messiah, our Savior, and our Redeemer was born. We don’t have to travel to Bethlehem to see this great thing, we can look into our hearts and see our King.
