Armor of God – Feet Fitted with the Gospel of Peace
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. And pray in the…

Becoming a Warrior of Hope
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” Romans 5:13 This year (October 2018 – September 2019) we will be embarking upon the “Warrior of Hope Project.” Hope can be hard to come by and if there is anything we need more of in today’s world, it is hope. This year we will spend time looking at God’s promises and His provisions. We will learn about using prayer as a tool to bring hope to our family, our friends, our neighbors and our nation. As we worship…

The Pumpkin Spice Gospel
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” Matthew 5:13 Do you think Christians are boring? What is your favorite flavor or flavoring? Do you have a favorite Pumpkin Spice food or drink? Humdrum, boring, lifeless, and dull are words used to describe rice cakes, tax returns, and slow Wi-Fi. These are not the words to describe the Christian life. God calls us to be “the salt of the earth.” The ones who represent and give flavor to a life that is…

How Delightful!
“Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires.” Psalm 37:4 NIV Who is your favorite person to spend time with? Who knows you the best? What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? To take delight in someone means to spend time with them. To really take the time to get to know them and their ways. I know my best friend hates to swim, I know she loves tea and hates onions. She knows I love the color Navy Blue and hate cooking. To take delight in someone is different than taking delight in something. I love Talenti Sicilian Pistachio Gelato. I would take delight in…

Pick and Choose
“give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 In my job, we have a process where the client has to decide between going with the default of “All” or making the decision to “Pick and Choose” what they want to do. The default option of “All” is the best way and provides the best solution to the situation. However, occasionally a person will ask to be able to “Pick and Choose” how they want the process to go. This is a more painful and time-consuming process, and the results are not always what they hoped for. I realized the other day;…

Come and P.R.A.Y.
“Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16) Did you have a favorite prayer growing up? Did your family pray before meals? Did you grow up saying prayers before bed? I grew up saying this prayer before dinner every night: Come Lord Jesus, be our guest. Let these gifts to us be blessed. Amen My family still says this prayer before dinner. I also grew up saying this prayer before bed: Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should…

Scorched Feet
“Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched? Proverbs 6:28 NIV Do you think some sins are worse than others? Have you ever tried to reason with God about something that is desirable but questionable? A wise man is telling us all sin will burn us in the end. Honestly, sometimes sin just feels right. Hebrews 11:25 calls this “enjoying the fleeting pleasure of sin. ” I really like overeating, and I really hate dieting. I am always starting a new diet plan, but indeed I just continue to try to find new ways to enjoy the sin of gluttony without having to pay for it.…
